Unless otherwise stated, original copies of Wills dated prior to 1858 are usually found in the appropriate Diocesan Record Office for the court where the Will was proved - for Herefordshire, this is the Hereford Record Office. Abbreviations which may be used on this page are:-

(Ad) "Admon", or Letters of Administration.
(I) Inventory (a list of the deceased's goods, and their value)
(N) A Nuncupative Will is one declared by a legal representative, as being indicative
of the deceased's wishes, and will often refer to the Testator in the third person.
(#) Indicates the Will is a 'duplicate' - that is, more than one person has submitted an
abstract from the same original Will.
 * An asterisk against a surname indicates the Executor(s) of the Will, or, in the case
of Administration (Ad), the Administrator(s)

to my son Hannibal my 2 messuages in Turnasone in the possession of William WHITBY and Phillipp TYLER with the lands thereto for life and the rents (£4 p.a.) from my field .... Lease also the rents on all the lands in the possession of Water MYLE[2] with the tenements and lands in the possession of Mauld LANDON for life.
to my daughter Dorothy (the wife of James PENOYER) - all my lands which I delivered to him and are now in his possession in the parish of Turnaston to her and her heirs forever and 100 marks (the remainder of her portion) according to the performance of certain promises made by him to me [? the terms of a Marriage Settlement] provided that my son Humfrey shall pay the a/m sums to my daughters Blaunche, Frances and Dorothy.
I give my mansion house in the parishes of Turnastone, Vowchurch and St Margarets [ie the Whitehouse] to my son Humfrey HOWORTH as long as he pays to my son Neptune HOWORTH the yearly sum of £10 in equal payments at the [Feast of] the Annunciation and Michaelmas.
If Humfrey has no heir, then all his properties to Neptune and if Neptune has no heir then to my grandchild Humfrey HOWORTH and if he has none then whichever of my heirs male can pay the above mentioned legacies shall also have the lands including the Whitehouse.

Also attached to the will is a brief inventory of the goods of John HIGGS, late of St Martins, prepared by Thomas EUSTACE, re: wearing apparel and reversion of lease of lease held of the Vicars of the College of Hereford, total £1 10s 0d.
